The Mozilla Foundation has launched the latest version of their web browsing software, Firefox. Now at version 1.5, the new version boasts an automatic update feature, faster browser navigation, better pop up blocking and improved accessibility.
All is not roses however. One of the key features of Firefox is its ability to support extensions. This means that users can download any number of third party extensions to customise their browser to their hearts content. Unfortunately, many extensions have not been updated to work with the latest version of Firefox yet, so a lot of users may find themselves with a browser which is no longer quite as customised as they wish. Whilst this is not the fault of the Mozilla Foundation, many users will find themselves frustrated that the upgrade path is not as smooth as it should be.
These niggles aside, this is an important release for Firefox. Over a year old now, the last seven releases of the software have been security related, so this is the first major overhaul of the browser since it's official launch. We can confirm that it's as good as ever, even if the American Express site doesn't seem to work any more. Still, we can hope that'll be fixed soon.
An important upgrade for all Firefox users, but do check if your extensions are supported by the latest version before you take the upgrade step.
