Xbox 360 demand expected to exceed supply
Saturday, November 05, 2005 at 22:57 by Andy Holliday
Microsoft admitted earlier that they demand for Xbox 360 consoles will far outstrip supply for Christmas.

Microsoft are manufacturing the gaming machines as fast as they can but do not expect to be able to fulfil all orders from retailers.

Online retail giants Amazon have already announced to customers that any orders placed on or after 2nd November will not arrive until 2006 and even those who placed orders months ago cannot be guaranteed delivery in time for Christmas let alone the release date of December 2nd. Amazon did promise that customers who don't get the consoles before Xmas will recieve a 10 GBP gift voucher.

Perhaps the only guaranteed route to getting possibly the must-have gadget this Christmas is on eBay where consoles are already selling for $1000.

Will there really be such a shortage this Christmas or is it all hype in an attempt to make the console from Microsoft the most sought after gadget this Xmas?

Let us know what you think on the comments form below. Expect a full review of the Xbox 360 as soon as we receive our console (hopefully on 2nd December!)

I think that microsoft is doing it for their own ego to get a bunch of plablissity and get on the news

if the console is expected to be very expensive anyways, then I don't think it will be sold out everywhere. People don't have that kind of money everywhere.

Sony did this same thing with the PS2 slim last winter and PS2 when it first launched. And anyone thinking Sony won't be doing this with the PS3 is being just plain ignorant and naive. And seeing as how developers have stated to expect Xbox 360 and PS3 graphics to be very very close the first few years in quality (with Armored Core 4 already helping drive that point home), I wouldn't go and be getting all excited quite yet about the PS3 until Sony announces final details on the PS3. Online support has been confirmed by Sony to not be changing from how it is now, the hard drive for the time being has been dropped and is not expected to be a factor for Sony, and the ethernet ports have been dropped as well. Looks like Sony is trying to cut costs by cutting corners, which in the long run may hurt them more than help them. And anyone thinking the Cell processor or Blu-Ray is the saving grace...needs to realize the average consumer will not be buying a PS3 and will not be willing to trade out their current dvd player to use discs that can't be played on it. And with the Cell processor being capped (Sony confirmed this) for the PS3, further down the road especially, expect their to be graphical bottlenecks. But hey, don't take my word for it. Listen to those developing games for it.

I think the XBOX 360 will sell out for sure if you dont have it on pre order already like i do good luck trying to find one this holiday season cause they will be the must have item for kids this christmas so good luck.

It is a recovery, honestly, i think there IS a shortage, but microsoft, using its buisness genious, has decided to bring out the best in it by turning the situation back around, making the xbox 360 seem like its so hot that they cant even keep them on the shelves... when you think about it, its pretty obvious, and i beleive a really good decision on mycro****s part

Work on your grammer please. Its poor, 6th grade writing.

GrammAr is not the main focus on comments, rather your thoughts on the article. The Xbox 360 will be a hard to get item this year for the Holidays. Every year that a console has come out in the holiday season it is always SOLD OUT. It won't be as big as the Elmo doll in the 90s, but it will be sold out every where you look. And for those willing to pay $1000 on eBay - go ahead and do it.

its nice that companies all over the united states have created a need to preorder status in order to get the xbox 360 by launch date. It worked on me, and now im waiting in vain, for word on when ill even get my xbox 360. I ordered mine on october 2nd, since the store clerk said i would still get the xbox by launch date. Fat chance of that happeing, now im down 600 buck with my old xbox traded in, and nothing to play untill only Microsoft knows when. Thanks to all who created the hype and excitement of getting the system on launch date who left me hanging high and dry. And your welcome for the money you received from me for the guarantee that was never even there. angry customer and fading loyal xbox fan.

Personally, i think it is a load of rubbish of course they have plenty to go around, this has been in production for a long time, and they have had plenty of time to establish how poular this product will be, it is a gaming industry now. I will expect my sons to be delivered to me on the 2nd december without fail.

I believe that Microsoft is creating artificial demand for the Xbox 360. There is no way Bill Gates is the richest man in the world for under producing a new product with the chance to sell millions of dollars in the holiday season.

The shortage is Bull ___ Microsoft probably teamed up with Ebay so people can get ripped off... WoW they sold out everywhere when most stores only have 4 in stock... It's all Hype so people will get scared and buy assloads of these for Christmas Gifts. Microsoft is a player, and is playing everyone like a big fun dummy. When I call Microsoft or Get Online, and ask what's going on with the anorexic supply to the stores, they like hang up on me and close the chat window. I will not buy one of these, I'll wait for the PS3. If I do purchase some 360 I'll sell it on Ebay! LoL

I don't know what is going on, but I wish they would hurry the F up and get this console back in stores, before I buy me a shuttle PC
