Nintendo Game Boy Micro launch date revealed
Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 19:18 by Rich Kavanagh
Nintendo have announced their latest handheld gaming console, the Game Boy Micro, will start shipping to stores on September 19 at a recommended retail price of $99.99

Two versions will be available at launch - one in silver, one in black - each with three removable faceplates so you can personalise the Micro easily. The faceplates also serve as a durable, protective layer over the screen of the Game Boy Micro, protecting it from scratches.

George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing at Nintendo said,

"Game Boy goes anywhere, and now it fits anywhere. The incredibly small size of Game Boy Micro belies the powerful technology shrunk into a hip new casing with an intensely bright screen; and at under $100, it's a must-have."

Game Boy Micro measures just 4 inches wide, 2 inches long and 0.7 inches thin. It weighs 2.8 ounces which is, rather impressively, about the weight of 80 paper clips.

Along with boasting the same power as previous Game Boy Advance models, the Game Boy Micro features backwards-compatibility, allowing it to play all Game Boy Advance games, a library of over 700 titles.

How does this differ from Nintendo DS (apart from no 2 screens!)

it's the Gameboy Advance rather than the DS, so it's less powerful than the DS i guess. Craig's the expert on Nintendo ;)

Yup, it's a GBA basically. A very small GBA, but still a GBA. Nintendo are sadly starting to flog a dead horse. I'm getting a bit worried for them now, their big title for this year was the new Zelda game which has now been put back to April 2006 at the earliest by which time the Xbox360 will be 4 months old and showing off its incredible new specs. RIP Nintendo?

ah well, fingers crossed they do something amazing with the revolution, instead of just relaunching 20 years of games :)
