Microsoft Corp. today announced the official name of its next generation Windows operating system, formerly code-named Longhorn.

The eagerly awaited successor to Windows XP has been officially named as Microsoft Windows Vista.

A video of the name announcement is available for download.

Microsoft Corp. informed us that Windows Vista Beta 1, targeted at developers and IT professionals, will be available by August 3, 2005.
