AMD's new dual core processors aren't due for launch until tomorrow, but that doesn't appear to have stopped pricing information for the chips from leaking onto the web.
The new processors are going to be pretty expensive, with even the new low end models costing as much as AMD's existing high end parts. This is according to a report by Digitimes, the sources of which are unnamed Taiwan-based motherboard manufacturers.
The entry level 865 model will retail at $1,514, with an expected clock speed of 1.8GHz. The mid level 875 model will come at $2,149 and be clocked at 2.0GHz, whilst the high end 875 model will be a whopping $2,649 with a clock speed of 2.2GHz. The number 8 at the beginning of the numbering system indicates that this is a four-way plus chip. AMD are also expected to be launching 2 way and 1 way processors, with similar clock speeds but lower prices.
More news will no doubt be forthcoming tomorrow when AMD make an official announcement about the chips. It is still not certain as to when consumer models of the dual core 64 bit processors are intended to go on sale, other than sometime in the seond half of this year. More when we get it.
