Teenager arrested for sending Spim
Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 17:03 by Kathleen Hill
An 18-year old man from New York has been arrested at Los Angeles International airport in connection with sending over a million spam instant messages (Spim).

Anthony Greco, of Cheektowaga, New York, was arrested when he arrived at the airport on Wednesday 16 February.

Assistant US Attorney Brian Hoffstadt claims that Greco created thousands of accounts on an Internet service called MySpace.com and used them to send approximately 1.5 million spam messages to web site members.

According to the authorities, Greco contacted MySpace.com after sending the spam and asked to be given exclusive rights to send commercial messages via the web site. It is alleged that when this request was ignored Greco threatened to share details of his spamming techniques with other Internet users.

Investigators claim that MySpace.com spent more than $5,000 protecting itself against further exploitation by spammers, and deleting spam from its servers.

Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos said,

"It's good to see the US take positive action against those they believe are responsible for spamming the Internet. However, with more and more people recognising the fortunes which can be made through Internet crime there are many people who are still to be caught."

This is only the second CAN-SPAM case filed for Spim that we are aware of, the first was filed by AOL back in October.

Blogs are idiotic, I praise this man...but I frown on him because he failed to spam the **** out of the no-good people wasting their time talking about how good their toast was.... Seriously all blogz need to be destroyed hehehe. itz not that I hate an outlet of thoughts, but has anyone honestly read the majority of uninteligible crap ? I have !!!! I read alot of blogs...and DAMN they're boring!...This critique looks like a blog lol...

If you are just reading random people's blogs, yeah its full of boring stuff. But on myspace I am connected to my friends, my REAL friends who have moved away or who I have moved away from and it is a way for us to still keep in contact. Blogs are just another way of sharing questions, desires, thoughts, and things which (admitedly) are even boring to friends. But that is no reason for them to be slammed as the above comment does. As for the spammer, I agree with Comment # 3 and 5.
