| Four new UMD movie titles confirmed for PSP |
| Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 17:39 by Laurence Norah |
To further reinforce their point that the PSP is not just a gaming machine, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced four new titles that will be released in the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format that the player recognises.
The titles, XXX, Hellboy, Resident Evil Apocalypse and Once Upon a Time in Mexico add to the already announced Spiderman 2 release in UMD format, bringing the total number of films so far to five. More films are to be released on a monthly cycle.
The PSP looks set to rock the handheld devices market. As well as being the most powerful handheld gaming machine out there, the device features wireless networking and expandable storage, so it can double up as a fully featured media player. Additions to the device may also include a web browser, and if Sony ever release a keyboard this could be the one device fits all solution that the world has been waiting for.
We're eagerly waiting to see what Sony come up with next for the PSP. So far it's been a good start, and we can only hope that they continue to impress. We'll keep you posted.

| Just a thought
It would be interesting to know the battery life on this thing. It's nice to pump all that juice in it but if you fall short of a full movie in terms of battery life, what's the point? I hope it's not a rechargeable battery or if it is, that you can switch to typical "AA" cells.
... the hummer is a nice beast on the road but it costs more in gaz than a morgage payment... Same here. Do we have any idea on this?
Thanks

| Do that many people play games - other than Kids and some 20-30 year olds. The gaming part of the PSP is overhyped. In the circle of people I know out of 100 - perhaps 2 play games - most play DVD's, all browse the web, send/recieve e-mail and listen to music. Sony is making a mistake by hitchhng a web browser to the game machine. This, a media centre , it does not make.
Browsing the web, e-mail, listening to Music and playing DVD's are much more important that the game abilities of the PSP - yet all we hear is how powerful a game machine this is.
This is a game Sony will loose - either to Apple or to some other company.

| what if you dont want this extra crap. what if you just want a cheap simple hand held that will play games rather than control your whole life. why would you want to suck the battery life out of your handheld just to watch one movie and then spend six hours recharging. why should you have to spen 100 dollars more just because you can watch movies on it when you dont even want to watch movies on it. |

|
| ah this will cost 1000 greenbacks at least |

| The battery life is a healthy 4-5 hours depending what you're doing. More than enough for even the most butt-flattening movies.
And if it does run out, Sony have made a 'power pack' of sorts, that uses the above mentioned AA batteries.
I'm 26 and play mine plenty. Lets be clear, this isnt some dreadful pokemon running contraption, its a fully fledged hardware 3D rendering games machine. It just happens to be small. And portable. And play movies. And play mp3/atrac3+. And store/display pictures. And play online. And download game content.
#4: People dont _just_ want a games machine anymore. Why ? Because people KNOW they can do more, and WANT more for their money. Hence they do more. And if you dont, then i say you must be one of few. And Sony cant make 3 million ofthese things designed around your limited needs.
Its 2005, lets reap the spoils of the era and play movies on the move. |
