Yahoo! launch Desktop Search tool
Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at 23:39 by Rich Kavanagh
Search engine giant Yahoo! have today launched a beta test version of their new Desktop Search tool.

Somewhat late in the day, Yahoo! have done what Google and Microsoft did months ago and launched a program that can search your computer for files.

Yahoo! Desktop Search indexes the information and content you have on your computer - emails, attachments, documents, music, images, videos, etc - making it easy to search for almost anything on your computer. It also supports over 200 file types.

Jeff Weiner, Senior Vice President of Yahoo! said,

"The launch of Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta further demonstrates our commitment to creating the best search experience for users. We believe that searching the desktop is an important part of the broader search experience and will serve as the platform to provide unique, search-enabled applications that span the user's hard drive, the Yahoo! network and the Web."

Yahoo! has partnered with X1 Technologies to produce the Yahoo! Desktop Search.

The beta test version of the new Yahoo! software can be downloaded free at http://desktop.yahoo.com

If I had to bet on this horse race, I would bet on Google coming in first place by several lengths

Mozilla seems to have the best browser, but their Thurderbird needs some TLC (tender loving care, for those too young to recall)

Maybe Microsoft has hired too many MBA's and not enough communicty college grads...Bill Gates needs to recall his own background. Fancy degrees don't seem to have much of an edge , as Alan Jackson sings, " here in the real world."
