eBay to drop Microsoft Passport service
Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 14:44 by Rich Kavanagh
Online auction web site eBay have announced they are to stop supporting Microsoft Passport logins.

Passport is an authentication system devised by Microsoft that allows users to sign in to multiple Passport-member web sites, with a single username and password combination.

eBay members currently using the Microsoft Passport service will have to sign in through eBay directly. The Microsoft Passport button that is currently displayed on Sign In pages will be replaced with links to a page with more information, including Help in case you cannot remember your User ID or password.

Furthermore, eBay will also stop sending notifications through Microsoft .NET alerts.

eBay is the second major firm this year to drop the Microsoft Passport service. It was only in October that job site Monster.com stopped using the Passport service.

From the end of next month, you can no longer use Microsoft Passport on eBay.
