Apple breeze past the 200 Million iTunes mark
Thursday, December 16, 2004 at 20:02 by Laurence Norah
Apple have announced that their iTunes store has crashed through the 200 million song download mark, a mere five months since we reported on their breaking the 100 million milestone. With exponential growth like this, it isn't going to be long before we are talking in the terms of billions.

Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, commented on the stores success:

iTunes has now sold over 200 million songs, making it the world's number one online music store by far. We're thrilled to be making music an even more popular gift this holiday season with iTunes and iPod.

iTunes has been a phenomenal success for Apple and combined with the remarkable iPod has contributed massively to Apple's recent surge in revenue and profit. We look forward to reporting on their continued successes, and expect that before the end of next year we'll be telling you about their billionth song download.
