| Playstation 3 to use nVidia graphics |
| Tuesday, December 07, 2004 at 18:05 by Laurence Norah |
nVidia and Sony have announced that the next generation Playstation, most likely to be named the Playstation 3, will be using graphics technology built by nVidia. This news follows our recent report on how the console will be powered using IBM's upcoming Cell processor, and shows how Sony are starting to fit together all the components for their already impressive looking system.
nVidia made the graphics subsystems for the Xbox, but lost the contract on the Xbox 2 to ATI, so they will be pleased to have someone in the console arena to be making graphics for. The thought is that the graphics systems to be used will be nVidia's next generation cards, but no detailed technical specification is available as yet on what these may be capable of.
No official release date for the third generation Playstation is available yet, but we expect to see it in early 2006, around the same time as the next generation Xbox. We are already preparing ourselves for the arguments as to which one is better, and until then we will keep you updated on product developments.

Cool - for you that do not know, nVidia (invidia):
invidia
n : spite and resentment at seeing the success of another (personified as one of the deadly sins) [syn: envy]

| I dunno which will be the best but I reckon the Xbox 2 will be out well before the PS3. MS are adamant that they dont want to lose any ground to Sony by releasing it 12 months after. |

I really do hope that the two consoles come out the same year, so it can be an even start for both the xbox 2 and the playstation 3. I am a big time sony fan, I have both the playstation and the ps2, and they are both wounderfull game systems. I really spect to see the ps3 take the lead agains the xbox 2, and nintendo. |
