An adult based web site has started legal proceedings against search engine giant, Google.
Perfect 10 Inc, a web site which specialises in selling photographs of naked women, has accused Google of copyright infringement by alleging that the online search engine is destroying its business by distributing links, passwords and images that provide free glimpses of the nude models on the pay-to-view based web site.
The law suit, which was filed last week in a Los Angeles federal court, revolves around some of the graphic images found through Google's image search engine, http://images.google.com
Perfect 10, whose slogan is "The World's Most Beautiful Natural Women", accuse Google of providing unauthorized access to thousands of copyright pictures for which the company currently charges a monthly membership fee of over $25.
Norm Zada, President of Perfect 10 said,
"They're showing the pictures from my magazine and my web site for free so there's no reason for anyone to buy my products. To add insult to injury, they give away my user names and passwords."
Furthermore, a search on Google for "perfect10.com passwords" provides a list of usernames and passwords that would enable surfers to access Perfect 10's web site and bypass its monthly membership fee.
Zada also said he fears his company, which has 100,000 unique visitors a month, will be driven out of business unless Google is forced to stop distributing the "free peeks".
A Google spokesperson said the company had not seen the suit yet.
