AOL give away full virus suite to customers
Friday, October 29, 2004 at 06:24 by Rich Kavanagh
Internet Service Provider (ISP) America Online have announced that it will make McAfee VirusScan Online available at no additional charge to its members

This makes AOL the first ISP to offer comprehensive, automatically-updated anti-virus coverage as part of basic membership to both broadband and dial-up customers.

McAfee VirusScan Online will be included with AOL 9.0 Security Edition, the newest version of the AOL software, which was specifically designed to address online consumers security concerns.

Jon Miller, Chairman and CEO at AOL said,

"One of the most compelling needs for families today is to feel safer and more secure online, and we have made safety our top priority at AOL. That's why we started scanning every member e-mail attachment for viruses - blocking more than a billion last year - and why we offer our members broad Spyware protection for their computers.

Today we're taking the next major step in providing greater peace of mind for our members by extending comprehensive and automatically-updated virus protection to the whole computer and making it a basic part of an America Online membership. We've had an outstanding partnership with McAfee for two years, and we're pleased to expand that relationship by providing our members with McAfee's world-class premium virus protection."

AOL 9.0 Security Edition will launch next month.

Congratulations to AOL!

Thank you for leading the way with this common-sesnse move to give us all extra protection from the few anti-social idiots who seek to disrupt the sane, legitimate users of your ISP.

Why cann't you give this to other members who have your service. I do not have 9.0 because I don't have the space required. I pay also and should be provided this service.

My computer shows that I do not have any virus protection on it. This is not the time of the year that I would want it that way. If there is a problem with McAfee, I will get something else. I have not even read e-mail or wrote e-mail until the computer is protected. Sharon K. Volk <ADDRESS REMOVED BY I.T. VIBE>

Comment # 33 on 05 April 2006 at 20:03 by Anonymous
Yes, for US members only - AOL continue to rip off UK members for antivirus @ £2.49 a month. Disgraceful favouritism to the yanks
