Sunday, August 22, 2004 at 22:05 by Rich Kavanagh
Computer manufacturer Apple have issued a safety recall for 28,000 faulty batteries that were shipped with their PowerBook portable range of computers.

The affected batteries could overheat, posing a potential fire hazard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Apple is voluntarily recalling certain lithium ion rechargeable batteries that were sold worldwide from January 2004 through August 2004 for use with 15-inch PowerBookPowerBook G4 (Aluminum) notebook computers

The batteries were manufactured by South Korean based LG Chem.

Apple have received four reports of these batteries overheating and no injuries have been reported.

Apple has initiated an exchange program and will provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery, free of charge.

The recalled batteries have the Model Number: A1045 and serial numbers that begin with: HQ404, HQ405, HQ406, HQ407, or HQ408. The model and serial numbers are located on the label on the bottom of the battery, and can be viewed by removing the battery from the computer.

No other PowerBook or iBook batteries are part of this recall.

Looks like Apple have some problems with their batteries, first reports of the Ipod batteries only last so long and being worthless, and now there high range Notebooks suffering from over heating...

Maybe they are just really pushing the limits of their hardware?
