No porn on UK Vodafone mobiles
Friday, July 02, 2004 at 13:41 by Craig Beaumont
In a move similar to that of BT, Vodafone has launched an electronic content filter system designed to stop users accessing pornographic websites or chatrooms. The filter will be enabled as default but can be removed at the individual users request, as long as the subscriber can prove they are over 18.

Vodafone are currently using credit cards to identify whether a user is over 18 or not with customers having to register there details either online, on the phone or at a high street store.

Even this method isn’t foolproof with a spokesman from Vodafone admitting that under 18’s could use parent’s credit cards to get round the check.

The filter system will come into place today and was a natural follow through of the code of practice that the major UK operators agreed that we reported back in January.

It is unknown how Vodafone's users will feel about having to "opt in" to receive adult content and how the information about them being opted in will be retained.

This is strange. What is so weird about sex? Violent video-games are much more harmful, if you ask me.
