RIM tell court to throw patent case out
Tuesday, June 08, 2004 at 08:36 by Rich Kavanagh
The patent case continues between BlackBerry manufacturers Research in Motion (RIM) and patent holding firm NTP.

Lawyers for RIM have urged the case be thrown out of court immediately because the patent suit is based on "old technology" and that the patent NTP hold is not like the BlackBerry device "in any way, shape or form".

RIM's lawyer Henry Bunsow also said the NTP patent was "more like a pager that receives e-mail than a BlackBerry". He also said that some of the U.S. patents that NTP hold did not apply because RIM are based in Canada.

A statement to which NTP lawyer James Wallace replied claiming the U.S. patent laws did apply because the right to use the devices is still sold in the U.S.

The case continues.
