Hotmail and MSN Messenger built into phones
Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 14:46 by Rich Kavanagh
Openwave Systems Inc, makers of software for mobile phones, have announced a new deal with Microsoft.

The deal means Microsoft's Hotmail and MSN Messenger products could be built into phones within the next few months.

The two products will also feature in the Openwave Phone Suite V7 Platform, due to be launched next month.

Brian Arbogast, Corporate Vice President of MSN Communications Platforms said,

"The MSN vision is to bring consumers anytime, anyplace access to the people and information that matter most; MSN Mobile plays a critical role here as we work to make this vision a reality. We believe we can provide a great opportunity for mobile operators to drive more wireless data usage."

The deal will now also put Microsoft in direct competition with Nokia and their recently acquired Symbian OS.
