Napster claim 5 million songs downloaded
Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 13:33 by Laurence Norah
Napster, the infamous music sharing software company recently reborn into a legitimate pay for content music store, has stated that since it's launch last October it has had over five million song downloads and boasts over 1.5 million members.

We recently reported that Napster posted a pre-tax loss of over 15 million US dollars, so no doubt these sales figures will give some hope to Roxio, the company behind the Napster service. Although still signifcantly behind Apple's iTunes music download service, who currently have around 56 percent of the market share in this segment, it does go to show that the market for music downloads is certainly there and expanding.
