DVD Jon sues for $20,000
Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at 18:35 by Rich Kavanagh
The man who made DeCSS, the software used to break the copy protection built into DVD films, has decided to file for compensation.

Jon Johansen, known better to the Internet community as DVD Jon, had the case against him dropped back in December after an appeal hearing in which Judge Wenche Skjeggestad said that Jon Johansen could legally copy DVD films that he had bought or owned and that he was not violating any intellectual property laws.

Now four years after the case first started, Jon Johansen would like some money to cover his expenses.

He has just applied for compensation to the tune of $20,000 dollars.
