Bill Gates to be Knighted
Sunday, January 25, 2004 at 18:20 by Laurence Norah
In a recommendation put forward by the British Chancellor Gordon Brown, Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates is to receive a Knighthood from the Queen of England.

A Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE for short), is one of the highest accolades that can be bestowed by the Queen of England upon an individual, and in the past has been bestowed on other worthy foreign dignitaries such as George Bush and Steven Spielberg.

As Bill Gates is not of British Nationality, he will not be able to prefix his name with Sir, the title which British Knights are accustomed to being called with.

It has been revealed that the Knighthood will be officially announced at a conference for leaders in the global industry and finance sector, a conference to be held in London later this year, which has been organised by British Chancellor Gordon Brown.
