OSDL offer $10m in fight against SCO
Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 08:32 by Rich Kavanagh
The Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) have announced the creation of a Linux Legal Defence Fund.

The OSDL is a global consortium of leading technology companies which are dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux.

Setup after consultation with their members, the Linux Legal Defence Fund will defray the legal expenses of Linux users involved in litigation with The SCO Group.

Stuart Cohen, CEO of the OSDL said,

"Customers deploy Linux solutions in good faith based on its technical merits and lower cost of ownership. As the emerging center-of-gravity for Linux, OSDL is responding to a call for leadership on this issue. This fund sends a clear message that OSDL, in co-operation with others throughout the Linux industry, will stand firm against legal threats levied by The SCO Group."

So far, the OSDL have recieved over $3 million dollars from firms such as MontaVista Software, IBM and Intel.

UPDATE: Novell to offer indemnification from SCO
